STRUCTURE and POETRY :

An important method of analyzing a poem is to look at the stanza structure or style of a poem. Generally
speaking, structure has to do with the overall organization of lines and/or the conventional patterns of sound.

Alliteration.

Alliteration is a literary device where words are used in quick succession and begin with letters belonging to the same sound group. Whether it is the consonant sound or a specific vowel group, the alliteration involves creating a repetition of similar sounds in the sentence. Alliterations are also created when the words all begin with the same letter. Alliterations are used to add character to the writing and often add an element of ‘fun’ to the piece..

Example:
The Wicked Witch of the West went her own way. (The ‘W’ sound is highlighted and repeated throughout the sentence.)

Second Year 2014 : Elements of the detective story

http://www.slideshare.net/kbbandrowski/introduction-to-a-detective-story-2007

The traditional elements of the detective story are:

(1) the seemingly perfect crime;

(2) the wrongly accused suspect at whom circumstantial evidence points;

(3) the bungling of dim-witted police;

(4) the greater powers of observation and superior mind of the detective; and

(5) the startling and unexpected denouement, in which the detective reveals how the identity of the culprit was ascertained. Detective stories frequently operate on the principle that superficially convincing evidence is ultimately irrelevant. Usually it is also axiomatic that the clues from which a logical solution to the problem can be reached be fairly presented to the reader at exactly the same time that the sleuth receives them and that the sleuth deduce the solution to the puzzle from a logical interpretation of these clues.

On Life

Some times when you sit and think of life, things seems so strange. Certain things on this planet are beyond our detection. Many a times i wonder how things are created and why certain things are created. My thoughts regarding the above ended with the mirroring concept of Maya. Beauty, wealth, pride, birth, life, death and so on.... nothing is permanent on this materialistic world. It is so funny to see people fight with his fellow human being with ego, pride, jealousy, arrogance, and cruelty for the sake of competing them on this temporary world. Life itself is not permanent yet we strive and struggle much to yearn for the so called permanent positions of life. It is indeed an illusion which blinds the realities of life. Funny and pathetic isn’t it? Had the so called humans realized this we could have long tasted the power of peace and happiness.

1105: Great Expectation

1105 : Short Story

  • The plot is the sequence of events that occur in the story. The plot begins with a narrative hook; must involve a problem, or conflict, that the main character faces; builds to a climax, or point of highest interest; and then shows the main character solving the problem and learning something about life.
  • The characters are the individuals in the story. A short story may have one or a few main characters and one or a few minor characters.
  • The setting refers to the time and place in which the story occurs. Often, a short story (as opposed to a novel) has only one or a few settings.
  • The point of view is the angle from which the story is told—first person by the narrator or third person by someone outside the story.
